This month is Dilla month, celebrating the life and legacy of the great and iconic J.Dilla. I am going to a huge J.Dilla event tonight in the Bay Area, and I solely promise to take lots of pictures, if at all prohbited, and I'll post them here.
For a piece I am writing for our "Music Snob" section, I wanted to address the fact that J.Dilla has a lot of stans, but some I believe are only "fans" because you can't really be a hip-hop head without paying homeage to one of the greats. I believe, Dilla is an icon, a fixture and a legend in hip-hop. A lot of my favorite songs of all time, were produced by Dilla or featured Dilla.
I was introduced to Dilla by my stepmom's little sister who's from Detroit. She'd come to visit for the holidays or something of the sort playing Dilla, or Slum Village, I was like mind you a 7th, or 6th grader at this time, and ever since then I've been hooked on SV, on DILLA, on his legacy all that. Plus, he had lupus, my dad has lupus--that theme I've always felt compassion towards which made me want to really follow him and his career, it's random but true.
Yea, that was about it. (:
